Google Personal Results

This morning Google announced that results from your social network will begin appearing in search results. Unfortunately it looks like only results from Google’s social networks will be appearing.

One of the highlighted examples shows images from Google+ matching a search term. Will Google be showing Flickr photos from my Flickr friends too? Yeah right.

Another example shows Google+ posts your friends have made about vacation destinations. What if they’ve written Yelp reviews of vacation destinations? Will Google surface those? I doubt it.

If Google really wanted to make the social web better, they would create a public API so social services could provide personalized index entries for their content on Google. This isn’t about making Google search better, it’s about using Google’s existing search market to push their other services.
